Why I started this blog....

I'm not skinny. I'm a big girl, however I'm not a big, short girl. I am average height, 5'6".

I'm perplexed. Why is it that plus-size clothing, while roomy for hips, boobs, butts and thighs, cannot accommodate legs and arms longer than 24 inches? Why is it assumed by most fashion designers that fat people must obviously be short, but only when it comes to arms and legs BECAUSE they then assume that fat people have long torsos (obviously to make up for their short limbs).

Let me give you an example - I pick out a nice skirt suit for work. The skirt is typical - roomy in the waist and hip (elastic waist, no less, because no fat person could POSSIBLY wear a fitted skirt), and then the skirt narrows toward the knee. Picture a cupcake - narrow at the bottom and all fluffy on top. The skirt is also shorter than I'd like, but that's the "in" style. The matching jacket is usually one of two styles - fitted or straigh-cut. The fitted jacket, while providing plenty of shoulder and chest room, is cut so long that the waist falls around the hips. If I hike up the jacket so the waist sits where it's supposed to, I'd have enough room in the chest and shoulders to fit a small child. If the jacket is straight-cut, it's even worse. The button for the waist still falls too low but now I'm also fighting the narrowing at the bottom (picture zoot suits). It's a fashion nightmare, one right after the other.

So I want to know - where does a fat girl go to get some decent clothes that won't clear out her checking account in one visit? So many stores accommodate different types of bodies such as petite and tall, but the fat girl of average height is a forgotten soul. What would that body type be called?
